From our newsletter
Hey there!
Hope you're having a great week. We wanted to share something quick that could genuinely help protect your computer. Whether you're working from home, managing finances online, or just browsing, these five Windows security settings deserve a quick look-over.
Think of this as a friendly tune-up. Takes about 10 minutes, and it's 100% free.
1. Windows Defender Status
Your built-in antivirus is quietly working in the background, but is it actually on? Head to Settings > Privacy & Security > Windows Security and click "Virus & threat protection." If you see a green checkmark, you're good. If not, turn it on. Simple but important.
2. Automatic Windows Updates
Updates aren't fun, but they patch security holes fast. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and make sure "Install updates automatically" is enabled. Your future self will thank you.
3. Firewall Check
Windows Firewall is your first line of defense against unwanted network traffic. In Windows Security, click "Firewall & network protection" and confirm it's on for all three network types: Domain, Private, and Public.
4. Password Policy
A strong Windows password is your master key. If you're still using something simple, now's the time to upgrade. Consider a passphrase (like "Coffee2024BlueSky!") instead of dictionary words. Longer is better.
5. Two-Factor Authentication for Your Microsoft Account
If your Windows PC is linked to a Microsoft account, enable two-factor authentication. This adds an extra security layer beyond just your password. You can set it up at account.microsoft.com.
One More Thing
While you're in security mode, this is also a perfect time to make sure your antivirus software is up to date. If you're running an older version or relying only on Windows Defender, consider adding an extra layer of protection. We carry trusted options that work seamlessly alongside Windows—no conflicts, no slowdowns.
Take 10 minutes this week to run through these five checks. You'll feel more confident knowing your PC is locked down. And if you have questions about antivirus solutions or need anything else, we're here to help.
Stay safe out there,
The MAVENTECH Team
